-- Life and Times of the 341st Bomb Group --
"Preserving the memory of their sacrifices!"

Postscript
( After the CBI )

The 341st Bombardment Group, along with its 11th, 490th and 491st Bomb Squadrons, was reactivated in 1957, and operated the B-47 bomber from Dyess Air Force Base, Abilene, TX, until 1961, when they were again inactivated.

Later the 341st Bombardment Group was reactivated as the 341st Missile Wing and is currently operating from Malmstrom AFB, Montana.   One unit of the 341st MW is the former 490th Bomb Squadron, now redesignated as the 490th Missile Squadron.

Additionally, with the reorganization of the U.S. Air Force in 1992, the 22nd is now the 22nd Air Refueling Squadron operating KC-135 tankers from Mountain Home Air Force Base, Idaho.

At approximately the same time, the 11th Bomb Squadron was reactivated as a B-52 unit with the 2nd Wing at Barksdale Air Force Base, Louisiana. Lt Col Rod Gillis, Commander, worked very hard to get 'Mr Jiggs' again approved as the emblem of the 11th Bomb Squadron. That he was successful is obviousin this photo (taken on the parking ramp at Barksdale AFB, LA, Oct 1999), as he stands beside "0011", the Flagship of the Squadron, and first to receive the insignia.

The continued service by descendent units of the
341st Bomb Group
is a living tribute to the accomplishments of it's
World War II members!
