"Diary of A Bomb Squadron":
A Tribute to 1080 Young Men

Transcribed & published by

(eng-gunner, '44-45)

This is probably the only published, and a most complete, history of a squadron that was ignored by historians writing about the war in the CBI.   It is a chronicle of the operations of the 491st Bomb Squadron, 341st Bomb Group from September 1942 through November 1945. ........with a hard cover which should last 100 years.

This book presents a story of the actions affecting the lives of 1080 young men who served with the squadron in the China-Burma-India theater in World War II.   The squadron operated for 16 months from Chakulia, India where it flew under the jurisdiction of the 10th Air Force. In January 1944, the squadron moved to Yangkai, China to become part of General Claire Chennault's 14th Air Force until the war ended.

The book includes pages of narative covering every mission flown by the squadron in both India and China.   Photos have been reproduced from both the Blue Book printed in India, and from the Silver Book (published at the end of the war) which covers the campaign in China, as well as many furnished by squadron members.

The index has a KIA list of our lost comrades, a dedication to the five MIAs, and an additional list of every member who ever joined the 491st between Sept 1942 and August 1945.

The book is available through the author, who will furnish it to squadron members at cost plus shipping.   Non-squadron members may have to pay a bit more.

The books are being sold on a first come, first served basis.
